The odd thing is, they are both police women and even they didn't know they were breaking the law.

Yes, awful incidents, discussed before on here and someone ought to pay but the law is the law, you can't cherry pick it del - in fact the cause is weakened by doing so. The police should be subject to the rule of law in ALL cases.
I'm wondering if these two women knew the law and broke it anyway? or whether they wouldn't have been allowed to register due to being in the police force, (excluding them from childminding too perhaps) and therefore to save money, broke the law anyway?

Just my thoughts, I'm not sure of the full facts yet.

What kinds of things were they saying DT? Do they call for the rules to be changed? or are they sorry and have just moved on? anything new?

Just read all through this thread again. There seems to be just two differences of opinion.
1....Responsible parents are the best people to make major decisions re their childs welfare.
2....The state knows best.

I have given my opinion.

Del stated that kids should be able to go to their parents/grandparents, to tell them if a paedofile has been near them.
In an ideal world yes. Unfortunately paedofiles work in very crafty ways, often winning their trust, often threatening. If the paedo is the parent or close family member, sometimes the child does'nt even realise this behavior is'nt the norm.
Not all kids have parents who are there for them.
Like Ty said, sometimes a child is too young to make itself heard or understood.
Sometimes the child does tell, and is'nt believed.
There are many different reasons why a child suffers in silence.

So why do responsible parents still hand their children over to friends etc who are unbeknown to them - but not the state - paedos?

Remember the time scale for this law is 8am - 6pm so anytime out of that is ok, weekends too. During the day the law states that a maximum of two hours is fine.

Finally acording to the Tories they have no plans to change the law, which is 3 years old.

following this case......

The strict rules re friends who look after each others children, are likely to be changed by the Government.
Childrens minister Dawn Primarelo said, her department will now work with Ofsted.
Calling for common sense, she said "This law was designed to give parents peace of mind,....never to interfere between friends and families and penalise hard workers.

By banning family and friends from looking after the kids in normal working hours.

No you have'nt Jack...
The rules at present are, ' people babysitting for more than two hours at a time, or more than 14 days a year should register as a childminder.

In the area where these woman live, chidlminding coste £500, pm.
Out of the reach of many parents. Thats why this private arrangment was made.

People can look after children for many hours after 6pm

The two hours are for between 8am - 6pm

So if Jack wanted to go out to the boozer one evening and drop his children off at a friends for four hours that would be fine. No criminal record etc. Most children are at school daytimes so the two hour rule is enough.

childcare tax credit pays at least 70% of the figure then you also have the Working Family's Tax Credit on top.

Anyway at least we have established they haven't been banned.

no we have not "OP" the ban is in place ,and also who can afford to pay £500 pm for child minding when they are working part time? this frigging nanny state is using double standards ie single parents to go back to work but you can not leave your child with family or friends! this is a pure example of one department fucking another by being too heavy handed and what the hell good is ofsted?? all I have seen from them is cock up after cock up

4% of people have been sexually abused by a relative - the most likely is a brother

sexual assaults by strangers are very rare

family is the problem
