Would you go for this.
This proposal looks better for our middle class old folk imo.

The success of the scheme is dependent on the Tory calculation that only one in five pensioners who buys into the insurance scheme will actually require residential care, allowing the cash accumulated to cover the costs of the 20 per cent who do need it.
Oh Dear. So it is a private insurance scheme.
Will 4 out of 5 pensioners who dont need it still pay for it, cough up £8k?
What happens if they (4 out of 5 pensioners) dont pay for it? Would the scheme collapse? Who would end up paying for it?
It reminds me of Railtrack and how wonderful the Tories' idea was.
People hate Tony Blair but yet want a Blair clone. :ggngngf:

Why should the state pay for care and the offspring inherit?

We accept we as individuals pay for the NHS to look after us from birth to the grave. It is a National Health Insurance for the majority, if people want a better service they are entitled to go private. If people struggle and work all their lives is it wrong that they should be denied passing on their inheritance to make a better life for their offspring.

Re: Would you go for this.
Some people scrimp and scrape for 25 years to buy their own house.
Others live rent cheap or rent free. Why should the person who has bought his house, have to then pay in £8.000, as an insurance for care in old age, (though he/she may never need it) when the person who has never bought a house, gets the same care free?
