There's a new Kelly in town!!!
Hail to the new thorn in the government's side called - Kelly. Sir Christopher Kelly. A fearsome civil servant who is striking terror into the hearts of MP's accross all parties. Because it is his job to ring in the changes that will alter greedy MP's lifestyles for ever.
Here is a list of his reforms:
1. Profits on second homes to be given to the exchequer, not trousered by MPs.
2. No reimbursement of mortgage interest.
3. Ban on appointing family members as staff.
4. No more claims for commuting, unless they live beyond reasonable distance.
5. No second home expenses for MPs within reasonable commuting distance.
6. MPs who stand down will only get 2 months pay, rather than a £64k golden goodbye.
7. Ban on flipping of second home allocation.
8. Ban on gardening and cleaning costs.
9. £10K per year 'communications' allowance to be scrapped.
10. Prospective MPs to declare all external financial interests and second jobs
Basically, Kelly wants to stop nepotism and stop MPs making substantial profits when they sell properties which have been funded (ie refurbished at great cost) by the taxpayer. Sounds reasonable to me.....
The backlash has already started, led by Stuart Bell cons MP and Roger Gale labour MP.

I would go a lot further than that Cannygirl! Halve the number of Mps. we do not need 646 of the bleeders. It costs us £500million to keep them in the style to which they are accustomed. As for accommodation, house them in Portcullis house which cost a fortune to build and has never been put to good use, or the Olympic village when it is vacated, and provide 24hour security.

Is 24 hour security strictly necessary??
and no, you're right, we do not need all those MPs now that we have handed power L/S &B to brussles. we never need that many in the first place.

yep, and trees are a greener option too. vultures could come and peck at the carcasses and the "eco-circle of life" would continue.Maverick wrote:Emilyb wrote:Ropes and lamposts ...ropes and lamposts is the only thing they'll understand.

BTW now that all these allowances are been scrapped watch their wages soar to stratospheric levels, crafty beggars. cos these were in lieu of high wages after all!
i still disagree with their 24hour security, leave a one hour security-free window............

They are already talking about a 45% increase in their pay and, surprise, surprise!, the recommendations following the expenses fiasco are not all going to be implemented after all.
Has someone been bought off or threatened by the Westminster Mafia?
The 'thorn in their side' has been successfuly dealt with it seems.

the estimate to build portcullis house was about £100million, but in the best of british traditions, it was more than double that when they finished building it.Rockmaninov wrote:I would go a lot further than that Cannygirl! it is a stone's throw from parliament, so house all the MP's there. it will save us a packet!
Re: There's a new Kelly in town!!!
But how many MPs weigh a stone?
