Mans poisons his wifes tea
A man who poisoned his estranged wife's tea with mercury has been given a 350-day suspended sentence.
William Dowling, 69, from Colne, Lancashire, poisoned 64-year-old Maureen Dowling's drink so she would become ill and dependent on him.

Do you think this sentence is a little leanient?

I think it is because she suffered no serious harm and thats why it is so light.
Doesnt matter really, he still attempted it.

The intent was to kill her, why a suspended sentence? Hopefully it won't encourage others with the same ideas!

Open some muscle shells slightly ...put them in a plant pot with soil and a nice plant for forty eight hours ...then wash and serve ...she'd be dead in no time and from sea food poisoning ...so he'd be in the clear ...oops ...he didn't actually want her dead he just wanted her to shut the fuck up and let him be the boss around his own house for a change.

I wouldn't eat one of those nasty things opened or closed. Maybe she will stop nagging him. He should get more than a wrist slap tho IMO.

Re: Mans poisons his wifes tea
So he gets off, more or less scott free.
That does'nt put much worth on his wifes life, does it?
She could be dead, its more luck than judgment that she is'nt. He sounds like a horrible controling old man, who could'nt face up to the fact that his wife did'nt want him anymore.
Perhaps if he had robbed her, he would have been given a stiffer sentence.

Time for a joke!
Lady Nancy Astor: Winston, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea.
Churchill: Nancy, if I were your husband, I'd drink it.

I've been warned that if I lose my own teeth or start to nag too much, I shall be tossed in a slurry pit then put through the muck spreader. This apparently leaves no trace of little old me. I don't know whether to be bothered more by his method of getting shot of me or that he has clearly given it a lot of thought.

Sounds like you have a real winner there.
Of course, you could always replace HIM, before you need those new dentures.
And I always say,.. there would be NO nagging women, if men did what they were told first time.

He'd have probably got a stiffer sentence if he hadn't paid his tv licence! It's disgusting. Can the victim or the cps appeal to have his sentence increased in some way? Like so many of the punishments handed out by UK courts it is woefully inadequate.
