I enjoyed that "Dellboy " is based on "Bowler" an east London chap who started out as a hawker then ended up with one of the biggest cut price warehouses in East London! David Jason is supposedly going to play his own grandad in the remake due out in february

Could they better Steptoe and Son? I doubt it.
Fawlty towers, Fools and horses, Some Mothers do have em, Dads army, ... I would rather watch the original, than a remake.
It doesnt matter how many times I watch Fawlty towers, its STILL funny.

I would love to see how they would attempt to redo "love thy neighbour, and "Till death us do part" nowadays.

Fawlty Towers is pure class S yl and even though I know the script, it amuses me to watch it over and over. There's an escapist comfort to it, as well as it being funny Very Happy ....I hope it's never, ever remade No

No, the last two you mention couldn't be remade, racist, sexist, ageist , all the isms! of their time but "Till death us do part" is quite funny though Embarassed

Ty, Shows you'd love to be remade. 460711
Yes, I remember laughing at, TDDUP. It was incredibly un PC, but if I remember right, (its been a long time) Alf Garnett was always on the losing end of his incredibly biased behaviour.
I remember Marigold, a big black man, who was gay, or pretending to be, to wind him up,(cant remember which) Anyway, he was hilarious, with all the best gags. So the joke was ALWAYS on the bigot.
Same with "love thy neighbour" I think.
The black couple were far nicer than the white couple.

(digressing....my n's are working fine now, thanks) Shows you'd love to be remade. Icon_smile

Hiya Syl,

It's true, we were supposed to take the irony from these shows but I think they still did stray too close for nowadays' pc taste and did rely on a thinly veiled type of discrimination for their laughs.

nnnnnnnice and you're welcome :wavingsmily:

I'd love to see a remake of 'The Young Ones' but I don't know who would
be good enough to take their parts. I also love 'Fawlty Towers'.
There's lot's I'd like to see, like 'Not the Nine O,Clock news' that was so
funny and 'Monty Python'.

Although, your right, you can't replace the originals.

The US remake of " Life on Mars" starts on TV next week, starring Harvey Keitel as Lieutenant Gene Hunt of the NYPD, ( I dont think there is a curly permed Bimbo in this series Wink ) Could be interesting to see how they have interepreted the format to the 50/60s New York Scene, a bit Mike Hammer/Philip Marlowe/ Dragnet I should think. :coolsmiley:
