Now that's a very good question Jack!
Me I've got other stuff to do at the moment
so I can't fill the place up with my incisive witterings...
Then I'm off to Dublin for a week of relaxation,
After that I'm busy with business...
But if this ship floats I'll be doing the hornpipe on deck;
if not then I'll go down with it.

Rumour has it that Spa is fast running out of steam.
Is there a heating engineer in the house?

On the other hand I rather like it like this!

Too many little forums around now. None of them will stay the course with just a few like-thinking posters with shared loyalties in each place. Too much personal stuff has been bandied about this little corner of forum-land for people to genuinely move on. There are merry-go-round friendships, but the shit always seems to hit the fan somewhere down the line and they all fall out again. New horizons I think. People need to find a new name to post by and move on to new places with different faces. The internet is apparently, quite big, there must be other places for discussion and a bit of a laugh that don't come with all the baggage these fragmented little forums, populated by the same old bunch of posters, all still arguing about stuff that happened three forums ago. This corner of forum-land is now mostly populated by people with grudges, point-scorers and attention-seekers. The majority of posters who didn't give a shit who anyone really was and could discuss serious topics without the need to resort to personal threats have long gone. Be brave those of you left.................find your wings......................go see what's out there.

There's nowhere to run to. Forums are all the same, mini battlgrounds where only the strong survive and the meek perish.

Whatever Micky has done, or whatever people think he's done (or hasn't done), this forum had his personality stamped on it. That ended very suddenly so the bubbles in the jacuzzi have died down, the robes have been sent to the laundrette, and the Steam Room ran out of steam.

I'm not suggesting people run anywhere, I'm just saying that the internet is massive, there must be places that function without all the personal stuff that seems to be going on around here at the moment. Most of the posters have been posting together for years now and there is little left for them to discuss that they don't already know each others' opinions on. Too often threads are hijacked by individuals to bang their own particular drum and it is boring. There are people who mope around from forum to forum moaning that "nothing is happening" only to burst into life and immerse themselves in any old argument that blows up, whether it has anything to do with them or not. Their parasitic behaviour is what is squeezing the life-blood out of the forums, not the meek amongst us. Seems to me, it's not survival of the fittest, more like survival of the angriest. Real life is hard and short, who wants to waste their days striving for fake victories over fake personas on the internet? Just saying!

Aye, the same old arguments keep coming up. On Dogs some people are talking about stuff which happened ages ago. It's nice to reminisce but some of the posts are full of anger and malice. One wonders how long people can keep up vendettas which aren't even anything to do with them.

Forums do die from time to time. SBS has died because nobody can actually get on it. Jezzas has died because the Admin started messing about and blocked the passwords of half the members. Bitchfest has died since maggots left and also because they have no new material to bitch about.

What has always surprised me is how...quarantined we are.
No new ship-mates join our little flotilla of forums
as we drift around each other in our little lake.

Fascinating little thread, I got rather sucked into reading there.
Isn't it the personal connections that gave a point to it all, if there is a point!Wasn't it when you got to know the nics character, that it all became vital and worth it.
I like discussion as much as the next person but diversity is definately the key, that's more and more obvious;it takes EVERYONE
I don't suppose there is any chance of these forums coming together in some way?

Seriously! Would you recommend these forums to any of your friends? What the hell would they think. Don't know about you lot, but forums are my dirty little secret.

Indeed it is logical to think that diversity is the key. Sadly, all too often it is diversity that now leads to the arguments, some people fail to accept that others may have a different opinion to them. There are too many "It's my way or the highway" posters around, they have, over time, become less and less tolerant of others opinions and seek only to gain victory over someone everytime they post. If that means they have to follow people around from forum to forum, that's what happens. Others flounce, set up their own forum, where they can be god and so the cycle begins again, until someone else flounces and sets up their own forum, all the time the quality of posting is diluted as the bitching and back-biting takes over. This posting of personal details is really too much and more than a little bit sick. I doubt the forums could ever be amalgamated, it would be a bit like saying, let's have just one football team in London, can't you all join together?...............it wouldn't happen. I'm sure everyone has their favourite forums and I bet none of them are forums they can post on now, those forums will be gone and I bet without fail those forums didn't die/get pulled/hacked because someone just got tired of running them.
